The people behind every edit

PhD-qualified human editors — subject-matched to your document

Every document submitted to proofreadingservice.ch is edited by a native English professional with a postgraduate degree in your subject area. Not a general editor. Not an AI. A specialist who understands your field — and the specific academic register it requires at Swiss universities.

All editors hold MSc or PhD qualifications Native English — UK, US, Australia, Canada Recruited from top 2% of applicants Reviewed quarterly Individual NDA signed before every document Zero AI tools used — contractually

The team

Meet the editors who will work on your document

Eight specialist editors covering every major Swiss university faculty. Every document is matched to the editor whose academic background is closest to your subject — not randomly assigned.

How we recruit

Only the top 2% of applicants join our team

We receive applications from qualified native English editors regularly. We hire fewer than 2% of applicants. Here is exactly what the selection process looks like.

01
📋
Application & credentials review
Every applicant must hold a postgraduate degree (MSc or PhD) in their specialist area. Native English only — UK, US, Australia, or Canada. We verify academic credentials before proceeding. Applications without verifiable postgraduate qualifications are not considered.
Minimum: MSc or PhD + native English
02
📝
Subject-specific editing test
Applicants complete a blind editing test on a real academic document — matched to their subject area. The test includes German→English or French→English transfer errors, citation style verification, academic register assessment, and a 45-minute turnaround. Our existing editors assess the result.
Fewer than 15% pass the editing test

🇨🇭
Swiss university knowledge assessment
Passing editors complete an assessment on Swiss university academic standards — faculty-specific writing conventions, academic integrity policies, citation styles by university, and the specific register differences between ETH, EPFL, UZH, and Geneva academic writing.
Swiss-specific knowledge required

🔄
Quarterly review — ongoing
All editors are reviewed quarterly against student ratings, revision request rates, and turnaround compliance. An editor whose work consistently generates revision requests is retrained or removed. Our 4.9-star rating is maintained by quarterly accountability — not assumed.

Standards every editor follows

What every editor is required to do — on every order

These are not guidelines. They are requirements. Editors who do not meet them are not retained.

📖
Read the full document before editing
Editors are required to read the complete document before making any correction. Understanding your argument, your methodology, and your conclusions is a prerequisite for editing the language correctly. This is not possible with AI tools. This is what human editing means.
🔒
Sign individual NDA before receipt
Every editor signs an individual NDA before receiving any client document. This is not a platform-level policy — it is a contractual obligation between the specific editor and proofreadingservice.ch, binding them to confidentiality for every document they receive.
💬
Comment on significant corrections
For every non-trivial correction, editors must include a Word comment explaining the academic English principle. "German transfer pattern." "Legal register." "Hedging required." Students should understand why their English was corrected — not just receive a corrected file.
📐
Verify citations against stated style
Every editor must verify citations against the style specified in the order notes — APA, IEEE, Harvard, MLA, Chicago, Vancouver, or other. In-text citations and reference list entries are cross-checked and corrected within the tracked-change document.
🚫🤖
Zero AI tools — contractually
Editors are contractually prohibited from using AI writing tools, Grammarly, ChatGPT, or any autocorrector on any client document. This prohibition is monitored through output review. Editors found using AI tools are immediately removed from the team.
✍️
Edit language — never research or argument
Editors are prohibited from changing research findings, altering conclusions, modifying data interpretation, or restructuring arguments. Language editing means improving the English expression of an idea — not the idea itself. This distinction is assessed quarterly.
